Spontaneous Combustion usually defined as ” the ignition of organic matter without apparent cause, typically through heat generated internally” but for the purpose of this post we’re going to define it just a little differently.
Spontaneous Combustion ( Kathy style)- the ignition of organic matter (Kathy) caused by someone ( Dave) suggesting (before coffee) that a spontaneous ( without prior planning) RV trip be taken in the next few hours.
Here’s what happened:
At 6:30 this morning, as I do every morning, I weeble-wobbled my way down the stairs toward the coffee pot. Spontaneous Dave (hereafter known as SD) spoke to me before I hit the brew button. I mumbled something in response. That is when I heard his perky morning voice say: “Hey, let’s go get the RV and go somewhere for the weekend!”.
He said this at 6:30 in the morning before coffee. I know! It’s almost as if he forgot who he was talking to and with whom he lives. Whoosh! I went up in imaginary flames because the thought of spontaneity makes me combust.
SD has been married to PK ( planning Kathy) for forty-two years. I have never been a spontaneous person. Heck, my life motto is ‘PPPPP.’ While, for most people, these five letters stand for ‘Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance,’ in my case, they mean ‘Prior Planning Prevents Probable Panic.‘ I need to know where I’m going, what time and what I’m taking. There are lists to make and routes to plan out, clothes to wash, dogs to get ready. There are things to do, and those things take time!
As Popeye said: “I yam what I yam and I yam not spontaneous!” (Popeye probably didn’t add that last part, but I did squint my eye when I wrote it). It isn’t that I wouldn’t like to take a little weekend RV trip, it’s that I didn’t have notice, so I could spend the time planning where, when and how.
At my age, I doubt I’ll ever be a “let’s just go and not plan” person, but I guess even after 42 years of knowing me, hope still springs eternal for old SD.
Sorry about that SD, maybe next weekend? Please let me know within the next 15 minutes so I have time to plan. 😉
