The RV Series-The Best Laid Plans-Beach Bummed

Sigh.

You know the quote that goes something like “life is what happens to us while we are busy making other plans”?

Life has happened to our beach bumming plans.

Quick refresher:   We rented an apartment in Newport Beach for the winter months. Signed the lease, put down the deposit and the ducks were all lined up to move in on August 17th.   Storage arranged for the RV, etc.

We’ve been in Las Vegas since August 3rd.   On Friday, BeachBum Dave received a call from the rental company saying there had been a mistake and they had double booked the apartment for August.  Could we move in on the 27th instead of the 17th?  They would put us in another rental for that week, but we would have to move twice.  (Move all of the things from the RV into the first place and then schlepp them 4 blocks up the street a week later).

Uh….no.

So, to make a complicated long story short, we demanded our deposit back, and we’re back to square one on the beach bumming.

We’re still headed to California for a week and in that time hope to be able to find another short term furnished rental, maybe not for the whole winter but at least for a few months.

We will close on our lot here in Las Vegas at the end of the month, so we will always have a place to “be,” but I’m disappointed that our winter plans to beach bum have been derailed.

The high strung redhead is a little bit off balance.   My ducks are scattered and running for cover.

I said I wanted to learn to go with the flow and have been patting myself on the back for the awesome job I’ve been doing.   However, I’m done now and would like the flow to be a gentle stream for a bit.

In the scope of problems, this isn’t huge.    It’s just a pain in the butt, and it will all work out.

We’ve had a great Vegas trip. I had some luck gambling and Friday night we saw The Who in concert.

The show was good, and for two 73-year-olds, Daltry and Townsend can still rock.     I had to laugh at the audience though.  The venue was filled with people our age, and many of them had to leave three times during the two-hour show to go to the bathroom….

So we’re on to other things now.   I have no idea what but whatever it is, it will be an adventure.

Stay tuned….
