One of the definitions of alternate universe is : An imaginary realm, often a variant form of the real world, depicting a different way events could have unfolded or the universe could have functioned.
Subculture is defined as: a cultural group within a larger culture, often having beliefs or interests at variance with those of the larger culture.
I’m living in one of those, not yet sure which one.
I am beginning to settle in and notice things around me. When I am focused on an outcome or destination I sometimes miss the detail around me. We’ve been parked in Newport for 6 days ( I think, it seems I lose track of time and days too). I am finally settling in and opening my eyes.
The RV park we are in filled up for the weekend. Except, thankfully, for the campsites right across the street. We still have our view.
There are RV’s of every shape and size, there are fifth wheel campers and trailer campers. There are groups of people (probably an RV club) who have a whole street together and party in the middle of it. There are solitary others, like us, here for a longer period of time.
There are probably a million children.
OK, maybe a slight exaggeration, not a million but definitely swarms. Yes, that is it….swarms. They flit around like angry bees except the children aren’t angry, they are having fun. They are having outside fun that doesn’t include some type of electronics. A nice sight to see.
I’m amazed at the things people bring in to set up their campsite.
Picture this:
An RV (or fifth wheel or camper) pulls in. The people get out and begin unpacking their things. All of a sudden you realize that there are so many things coming out of that little space it resembles a clown car at the circus.
They pull out furniture, rugs, grills, lights, flags, fencing, children’s riding toys, adult riding toys and golf carts. Somewhere in that RV or camper there is a black hole that just keeps spewing out “stuff”.
Being new to the whole experience, we didn’t know this. We didn’t have anything for our patio except a couple of chairs and while I’ve looked it doesn’t seem we have that black hole.
This meant a trip to both Target and Home Depot because heaven forbid we don’t keep up with the Jones’s or Smith’s , Walewski’s, or Jane and Tom( as the wooden sign on their RV says). All very nice, very seasoned RV’ers.
We bought a few things but still look like the newly married couple just starting out with mismatched donated stuff. As I’ve said before, I’m not a store shopper. I order and a big brown truck brings me my stuff. That will have to wait until I get home.
The next trip out we’ll be color coordinated and able to unload our clown car too.
Except for the golf cart. In my wildest imagination I can’t see BBoW giving birth to a golf cart.
Stay tuned….
Fun! This IS a learning experience for sure. I, however would have driven the clown car out and I still wouldn’t have made it past Chicago…. unless the wind helps me…
Can’t wait for the next blog…
Love you… >
