Once in a Blue Moon

“Once in a Blue Moon” is a saying that means “not very often”.

By definition, a blue moon is the second full moon to occur in a single calendar month.

On average it happens about once every two and a half years.

Last night the sky held a blue moon.    There had been discussion about it on television and in my living room.   People were talking about it on the internet.

I took note with a nod but it never entered my mind that I should get up and go look.

Just look.

As Dave ( Blue Moon Dave) was going upstairs last night he said “you really should get your camera and go look at this moon”.

Oh, my camera.

Okay.

So I stepped out on my front porch and looked up.

It took my breath away.

The light from the moon was causing the clouds around to glow.  The shadows creating a picture worth the capture.

What a shame it would have been had I missed seeing it.

All I needed to do was look.

How many times do we miss something amazing because we’re too busy, preoccupied, or apathetic to just look?

So many things happen just “once in a blue moon”.

Be present.

Be mindful.

Life is beautiful.

Just look.
