When you love an old dog you understand that things happen.
Accidents in the house or the need to go out in the middle of the night, lameness, cataracts, deafness, dementia.
Each of these issues brings with it a myriad of others.
But when you love an old dog you don’t care, you do what you have to do.
You just want another day.
You watch them closely for signs of pain or distress, hoping there won’t be any.
You just want another day.
You know there will be a time when a decision must be made but you try not to dwell on it.
You just want another day.
Another day of eyes that trust, a tail that still wags, a soft doggie kiss.
Another day of the love the old dog has given you for so long.
Another day to let them know they are loved too.
You just want another day.
Love, love, love. What I would give for one more day.
